Crib recall

Okay - a recall I promised to put on today's blog is about Delta Enterprises voluntarily recalling 1.6 million older versions of its drop-side cribs after 2 infant deaths. Cribs made between 1995 and 2005 require safety pegs that consumers may have lost during reassembly or have spring-pegs that can become worn out after many uses. The recall doesn't affect any cribs in retail inventory now. The company has set up a website at http://www.cribrecallcenter.com/. Consumers can also call 800-876-5304.
We're giving away REBA tickets (Target Center) this week and Johnny Lee Walker is giving away Josh Gracin tickets (Maplewood) this week - listen for your chance to win and hit an awesome show Friday night in Mpls. You'll have a great time!
I'm excited to see Tim McGraw's book hit stores today: My Little Girl. It's a children's book with some simple advice: As long as you're spending time with your daughters it doesn't really matter what you do.
Don't tell Robb, but I think I'm going to pick this up for him from Caroline for his birthday next month. :)
Talk to you soon and have a great day!

Hold your horses!

Okay, I realize that Monday's are typically days to ease into the work week - but I came across this information about Wild Free-Roaming Horses being euthanized and slaughtered and thought you should know about it. Please read the American Herds Special Features - they need your help to save our fabric of our American natural landscape. America's wild horses and burrows need your support. in 2004, Senator Conrad burns lipped in a secret amendment authorizing the government to begin selling captured wild horses and burrows again for slaughter "without limitation" until all the "excess" wild horses and burros have been disposed of. As of June 2008 over 33,000 wild horses are now being warehoused in government holding facilities - and the BLM (bureau of land management) has said they can no longer afford to feed the horses and proposed the horses be sent to slaughterhouses or BLM wants the authority to kill them outright in their pens. The killing of tens of thousands of wild horses and burros may begin as early as November of this year. You can help by clicking on the link and tell BLM that "No! This is not an option!" http://www.blm.gov/wo/st/en/prog/wild_horse_and_burro/feedback.html

I did you can too - you can read more about this at the link below - send me an email and tell me what you think too... liz@ktco.fm

On another note...

Food for Happy thoughts? You betcha! Some great feel good foods are apricots, asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower, chicken, lentils, milk, motzarella, pumpin seeds, shrimp, soybeans, spinach, tuna, oatmea, eggs, banana, yogurt, baked potatos, pistachios, prunes, salmon, brown rice and so much more. Try eating some of these foods for a week or even a day and see if you feel different, feel satisfied and smiling.

Tuesday Playhouse

Good Day!

We had our friends from the Duluth Playhouse in the KTCO studio this morning talking about their new show opening Thursday night: Don't Dress for Dinner, a comedy that sounds hilarious! Make sure you get your tickets with some friends for a fun night out - or catch a Sunday matinee.

So many awesome things are going on in the Northland and I'm glad we're such a big part of it. Boo at the Zoo is gearing up for another great Saturday. Our Bowlathon for Gillette's Miracle Network is happening this Saturday at the Incline Station from 3-6. Come on out and support Gillette and the families Gillette helps. JD will be there, Johnny Lee Walker and family will be there and I will be there with my family too. Bowling is a bonus to the greater cause we're driving awareness to and that is the awesome work that is being done everyday because of Gillette and they need help from us to keep their hospitals and clinics going. Over 250 families in our area utilize Gillette. Thank you for your support and thanks to Gillette for all the help to our Northland families.

Make sure when you're out and about to stop by Duluth Lawn and Sport and put your name in our registration box for a chance to qualify for our ATV for Free. We're giving away a Polaris ATV and trailer - go check it out it is amazing! We pull 3 names out of the box each Thursday. Also make sure to listen for the touchtones 3 times a day- be caller #9 - and you're qualified too!

Tune in Wednesday morning for some great country music and a lot of fun with JD and me on Your Country 98-9 KTCO.

See you soon,

Liz

If you would like to bowl with us next Saturday at Incline Station for the 2nd Annual Gillette/Children's Miracle Network Bowlathon, please get a team of four together and then call Becky at 218-624-4790 to get registered.

Hope to see you at Boo at the Zoo this weekend and then back here Monday morning bright and early at 6am to hopefully get you qualified for our "ATV for Free"!

Thursday with Lexi Gillette

Hi!
Thanks for coming back to catch up with us! This morning JD and I were honored to have Lexi in the studio. She is a great kid who happens to be a Gillette kid in more ways than one. Not only is her last name Gillette, but she's also one of the awesome Gillette kids that the Gillette Children's Hospital has been helping out. Lexi and her mom Tiffany stopped by to talk to us a little bit about what it's like for them with Gillette.
While Lexi was hanging with us she told some amazing jokes and I asked her if I could share a couple with you.
What does the Mama ghost say to everyone when they get into the car? BOO-ckle your seat belts, please.
What to witches put in their hair? SCARE-spray.

What awesome jokes - thanks Lexi!

I hope you can help us help those kids and their families who benefit from Gillette's Children's hospital. There are many in the northland who benefit from their clinic in Duluth and the hospital in Minneapolis. Whatever you can do to help is very much appreciated. Please check out the link on our home page for the October 18th Bowlathon to raise money for Gillette and the families.

Also now is the time to qualify for the ATV for Free from Duluth Lawn and Sport. How fun is that!!!

I'm looking forward to seeing you tomorrow on the radio. Feel free to email us anytime. Liz@KTCOFM.com or JD@KTCOFM.com

Wednesday-Rates Cut - Dinner's Ready

Okay - so things looked a bit scary this morning when interest rates fell in multiple countries in an effort to ease the financial crisis going on world wide... but always look for that ray of hope. If you're still working, focus on doing the best job you can, work on balancing your family budget and putting something - anything - into savings for a rainy day.... The time is now to prioritize.

In an effort to help busy families in any way I can - here is an affordable easy recipe that is quite tasty too.

French Onion Pork Skillet

Take boneless porkchops (up to 6) and one sliced onion (or two small ones) brown them on medium high heat for (5 minutes on each side of the chops). take the chops out of the pan and add 2 Tsp. of worchestershire sauce to the onions. Put the chops back in the pan. Put the onions ontop of the chops. Take a box of Chicken StoveTop Stuffing - add 1 1/2 cups of hot water to it - and spoon the stuffing around the chops. Top with some shredded (1/2 cup) Motz. Cheese and cook for 5 minutes ( I just put the lid on the saucepan to help the cheese melt) and serve with a side of broccoli or green beens.

Super Yummy!

Please send me your emails at Liz@KTCO.FM - I'd love to hear from you!

Talk to you tomorrow!

Liz :)

Best 10 Movies of All Time

Okay... I understand that people think the Godfather, Fight Club, and Shawshank Redemption are some of the 10 best movies ever but I must add my 2 cents... Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind, Sound of Music, along with Terms of Endearment and Back to the Future should be in there somewhere. Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and Indiana Jones trilogies should be in a separate category... but then Back to the Future was a trilogy too - but the original is still the best... Marty take me back to 1985 with that flux-capacitor in that DeLorian...

Join JD and me for our Bowlathon October 18th at the Incline Station for the Gillete Children's Miracle Network. I am very excited to be a part of this family. Log onto KTCOFM.com for even more details on how you can help and tune in on Thursday morning when we have Lexi and her mom Tiffany on KTCO to talk about Gillette.

Boo at the Zoo is coming up this weekend. Get your ghosts and goblins are geared up for some family fun this Saturday and next Saturday. Hopefully the weather will be perfect for your little adorable little furry monsters. :) I've got my baby daughter's costume all set - she's going to fit in perfectly at the zoo... as a little lamb. Super cute. Send me an email about what your family is doing for Halloween and if you have any photos email them to me too. Liz@ktco.fm

Oh and tune in tomorrow for my awesome affordable recipe tomorrow morning in the 6am hour.. it will be a tasty dish you get put together in a half hour or less for dinner.

Talk to you soon!
